Anesthesia

Patients of Gastroenterology Specialists, Inc. undergoing a colonoscopy or upper endoscopy are given Propofol, a sedative used to relieve anxiety and diminish pain, discomfort, and memory of the procedure. Propofol is administered intravenously by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), a highly trained medical provider who closely monitors you throughout the procedure. Your CRNA will personalize your sedative according to your needs and health history. Although Propofol provides a deep sedation, you will experience a much faster recovery time than if sedated with traditional endoscopy procedure medications. The use of Propofol for endoscopy procedures has been linked to increased rates of polyp detection, higher procedure completion rates, and improved patient satisfaction.
